Salalah is the third largest city in the Sultanate of Oman and is situated in the southwest of the country next to the Arabian Sea. It is where I lived and worked from 2010 to 2020. In these photographs I wanted to concentrate on aspects of the urban landscape which photographers largely ignore. I was particularly interested in the construction boom going on at the time alongside the decay of older parts of the city. The subject matter of these photos was also influenced by the work of the so-called New Topographics photographers, for example Stephen Shore and Lewis Baltz.
